The Black Horse
Pubs and Bars with Restaurants
Located just a few minutes from Gatwick, The Black Horse in Hookwood boasts a charming atmosphere, excellent food, plenty of outside seating for summer days, and a cosy wooden interior to warm you on chilly evenings. The Black Horse offers traditional pub grub while also serving contemporary gastropub-style dishes. The daily specials menu ensures that there’s always something new to try, so we made the most of the choices on offer that day. No pub is complete without a Sunday roast, and The Black Horse team has that box ticked with aplomb.
My partner’s starter of tiger prawns with lashings of garlic butter was a veritable feast for the senses, whilst my smoked trout paired with horseradish cream was light and full of flavour. To follow, the perfectly cooked cod arrived served on a bed of ratatouille with spring greens. A hearty mixed grill didn’t disappoint my hungry companion, who tucked into gammon, steak and sausages accompanied by a fried egg and plenty of chips. The highlight was a wickedly decadent chocolate and coconut torte; the coconut balanced the richness of the chocolate in the most delectable way. Equally tempting was the cheeseboard, which showcased an enticing British selection. If you’re feeling indecisive, the trio of mini puds gives you a great opportunity to explore The Black Horse’s decadent array of sweets.
