Three words sum up this gem of a hotel - stylish, vibrant and modern. We were made to feel completely spoilt on our visit, and the contemporary, luxe surroundings added to the indulgent experience.

The executive chef, John King, has had an enviable career. He joined the Penta Hotel team after spending ten years in the Aspen Mountains, where he catered for many high-calibre guests. John's knowledge and perfectionism shine through in each of his dishes, which are flawlessly put together.

The menu centres on the grill, with aged steaks, lamb, pork or tuna available. My rib-eye steak was meltingly tender and cooked exactly to my requirements. Sides of wild mushrooms, potato gratin and corn bread were the perfect accompaniments. We also sampled some fantastic spiced calamari, a delightfully fresh grilled prawn salad, and a heavenly chocolate puddle pudding for dessert. After dinner, we decided to relax in the bar and enjoy a couple of cocktails - the ideal way to end a memorable evening. It is worth checking online for events before you visit; they were hosting wine-tasting on the night that we dined.

I will undoubtedly be back to introduce this culinary discovery to friends. At the Penta Hotel, all details are considered to ensure you enjoy every moment spent there.
