Loch Fyne - Reading
Although it’s only just round the corner from The Oracle shopping centre, Loch Fyne in Reading is set in a secluded location next to the Kennet and Avon Canal, in the beautiful red-brick building of the old Reading brewery. The interior retains the original brickwork, painted white, and attractive wooden ceilings, while the light and airy wood-panelled bar area lends a nautical feel. As is to be expected, the restaurant serves stunning fi sh, seafood and shellfi sh dishes, all sustainably farmed and fi shed, as well as boasting a well-stocked fi sh counter. All starters are so appealing that it’s hard to know how to choose between sea bass and scallop ceviche (one of my all-time favourites), langoustine and salmon ravioli, and the amazing combination of haggis and Cheddar spring rolls with mustard mayonnaise, pear and watercress salad.
The new range of mains are equally mouth-watering and range from classic fish and chips to the spectacular shellfi sh platter piled high with oysters, king prawns, crevettes, mussels, palourde clams, langoustines, squid, and a choice of whole crab or lobster. It’s hard to imagine anything better for a special occasion, particularly when accompanied by one of the crisp, fresh white or sparkling wines, or a glass of bubbly from the excellent range of Champagnes.
What’s more, the staff are friendly, attentive and knowledgeable about the dishes. Make sure you sign up to the website for special offers and discount vouchers, and to book yourself in for a visit.
