The Old Customs House
Pubs and Bars with Restaurants

Situated in one of Portsmouth’s original naval buildings, The Old Customs House is a charming spot to retreat to after a long day. On chilly evenings, settle down on a comfy leather sofa with a large glass of rich La Vuelta malbec; in summer, the Edwin Fox Marlborough sauvignon blanc is best enjoyed in the shade of the attractive courtyard. If wine isn’t your tipple of choice, this Fuller’s pub boasts a superb collection of real ale – perhaps sample the rich, ruby-coloured ESB.
For those wishing to dine, highlights include a sumptuous starter of London Porter-smoked salmon scotch egg, and flavoursome mains such as Fuller’s Frontier lager-battered fish and chips with mushy peas and tartare sauce, and Norfolk chicken Kiev with bacon, oyster mushrooms, mash and spinach. Vegan diners are well catered for with the Kentucky fried seitan burger with vegan coleslaw. Platters such as the Greek mezze selection and Hampshire ploughman’s are perfect for sharing, be it for a light lunch à deux or a snack to accompany a round of drinks. Round off your meal with a decadent dessert of treacle tart accompanied by buffalo milk vanilla ice cream. If you prefer to finish on a savoury note, there’s an excellent cheeseboard featuring mature Cheddar, Stilton and Somerset Brie with sweet quince jelly, celery, grapes, apple and crackers.
