The Old Bookbinders is a pub with heart and soul, run by a family who care about ambience and food, and who have successfully brought simple French cooking to a traditional pub. There's a range of real ales and wine, and a good-value menu of crêpes, mussels, fish and meat dishes, tempting vegetarian and gluten-free options, and delicious desserts. This family-friendly, relaxed venue also keeps a stack of board games in the quirky bar. The food is simply excellent. We started our lunch with spicy king prawns in olive oil and lemon, and a dish of Burgundy snails, served piping hot in herby garlic butter. This was followed by main dishes of salad Niçoise and herb-crusted salmon with seasonal vegetables. Dessert was a delicious crème brûlée, with a crispy caramel and apricot base, and a generously filled banana and chocolate crêpe. Good coffee, served in fine English bone china, completed the perfect lunch
