Threeways House, 28-38 George Street, Oxford, OX1 2BJ
Fire & Stone opened on George Street in 2009 and has been wowing Oxford diners with a unique range of pizzas ever since. The menu features an ever-expanding variety of innovative toppings inspired by flavours from around the world, as well as plenty of tasty pasta and salad options. And it's clear they've put as much effort into designing the interior as they have the menu - the eatery, which spans over two floors, is stylish, contemporary and welcoming, providing a relaxed backdrop for the vibrant fare.

Although the dishes on offer are influenced by cuisine from across the globe, the produce used to make them is sourced locally, ensuring only the freshest ingredients reach your plate. Each section of the pizza menu features flavours from one of five continents - Africa, the Americas, Europe, Asia and Australasia. Those who love the classics needn't worry, however - in addition to innovative creations like the London pizza, with bacon, Cumberland sausage, roasted field mushrooms, free-range egg and chives, there are also favourites like ham and pineapple, plus the option to create your own topping.

We started with the crispy garlic baguette with gooey mozzarella, before ordering a Sydney pizza and the penne pasta with smoked bacon and soft, juicy mushrooms for mains. All pizza bases at Fire & Stone are twice-proved, making for a perfectly light, crispy crust; ours was topped with a delightfully rich combination of tangy tomato sauce, mozzarella, rich smoked bacon, free-range egg, smoked ham, basil and chives. We finished with light, zingy tarte au citron, perfectly offset by sweet, velvety smooth Chantilly cream and raspberry coulis, and indulgent waffles drizzled with lashings of moreish chocolate sauce.

There are plenty of quality wines, beers and cocktails to wash it all down with, plus fruity smoothies, creamy shakes, and tea and coffee. The Fire & Stone team are always creating new imaginative, seasonal dishes, ensuring even regulars are guaranteed to find something new to try. Warming winter specials include the likes of the Brooklyn, topped with pastrami, gherkins, bocconcini, sun-blushed tomato, red onions and American mustard; and we'll certainly be back to sample the incredible-sounding Christmas pizza, featuring all the festive trimmings you could wish for. It comes as little surprise this lively venue has earned a reputation as the go-to place for top-notch pizza
