Billed as the most dog-friendly pub in the New Forest, walkers who stumble across the attractive facade of The Compass Inn are unable to resist its charm. Adding to its special character, this pub serves a completely gluten-free menu. Fish features heavily on the menu in a range of comfort food, including starters of whitebait and main courses of smoked haddock on a bed of mushy peas with creamy cheese sauce. The mixed grills go down a treat, as does the steak and ale pie served with proper suet pastry, chips and peas. Why not round things off with sticky toffee pudding? Tempting cream teas are served throughout the summer months when you can enjoy the pub’s award-winning garden. Dog walks are organised on the first Sunday of each month and are very popular. After meeting for bacon butties, a stroll in the New Forest begins and ends back at the pub with a full Sunday roast and dessert.
