Lucky Lymington folk need venture no further than this gem of a pub right on their doorstep. Nevertheless, manager Sharon knows it takes more than good beer and a packet of crisps to keep us close to home. What do you want from your local? A quick bite, a relaxing end to a day's sailing, a drink with the lads or lasses, an intimate dinner, a family celebration or just a drink and a chat somewhere they know your name?' 'The Fish' ticks all these boxes and more. Pub-lovers young and old are rediscovering the joys of traditional hospitality - cask ales and good food and wine, along with up-to-the-minute events - without ever leaving their backyard.

Gone are the formal restaurant settings; here you can sit where you choose for à la carte or bar food. Junior foodies are taken seriously too - a scaled-down 'mini-me' version of the adult menu ensures little ones eat well while acquiring an appreciation for real food. We cheered to discover that, at The Fish, an emphasis is placed firmly on 'local' - assuring we were keeping food miles low while enjoying the fantastic food. Only fresh meat, game and cheese with the coveted quality New Forest Marque are selected, along with a fresh 'catch of the day', and transformed into sumptuous, satisfying seasonal dishes that beat many upmarket restaurants.

The food here is eminently affordable and cooked to order. Ever-changing specials simply fly out the door, so be quick to net such delectable catches as fillets of bream with creamed leeks, and you may want to reserve that orange creme brûlée to avoid possible disappointment.

As a great local should, The Fish hosts year-round events including barbecue, party and themed nights. Open mic evenings with live music appeal to younger, as well as more traditional, tastes. Sharon has made the local community her priority, taking good old-fashioned pub values, adapting them and bringing them bang up to date for today's more discerning tastes. We definitely intend to go again and look forward to seeing you there.
