The Empress of Blandings
Pubs and Bars with Restaurants
Located on the edge of the New Forest, this charming Hall & Woodhouse pub welcomes walkers and their dogs. Nestled in the village of Copythorne, The Empress of Blandings is at the heart of its community.
After perusing the menu and blackboard specials, I opted for the garlic field mushrooms in a creamy white wine sauce to start, while my partner enjoyed light and crisp arancini. I selected a Picpoul de Pinet from the well-compiled wine list to accompany my main course from the daily specials board: classic fish stew, comprising salmon, smoked fi sh, shellfish and potatoes in a mildly spiced sauce. I also sampled a little of my companion’s rib-eye. Cooked rare, it looked delicious and was so buttery and tender that the knife glided through it effortlessly. After deliberation I chose a dessert of coffee panna cotta covered with sweet sticky caramelised walnuts. Indulgent, rich and delicious, this dessert is a coffee-lover’s dream. Following a creamy coffee from the Colourful Coffee range, I was on my way, leaving behind a charming pub I will be returning to. With easy parking, a warm welcome, fantastic food and wine, and a renowned Sunday roast, The Empress of Blandings ticks every box.
