The House Martin
Pubs and Bars with Restaurants
Situated just minutes from Barton on Sea’s clifftop, stunning views of the Solent make The House Martin the perfect place to recover from a bracing walk or leisurely stroll. With its bright, contemporary decor and dog-friendly vibe, The House Martin is worth seeking out.
A varied menu offers everything from fish dishes and steaks, to burgers and pub classics. You’ll also find a specials board and a separate menu for children, as well as freshly cooked Sunday roasts. This Hall & Woodhouse-owned pub offers lunchtime sandwich menus as well as dinner, fine wine, real ale and an extensive selection of coffee and tea. Dining beneath a plethora of assorted birdcages suspended from a sky-high vaulted ceiling – some containing enormous glittering chandeliers – I enjoyed a generous serving of crispy whitebait with tartare sauce, followed by classic coq au vin served on a bed of creamy mash, accompanied by honey-roasted carrots and Savoy cabbage. Unable to manage a fullsized pud, I elected to try one of the mini puds on offer – a chilled, seasonal fruit crumble with custard – just enough of a sweetener to finish the meal, but no deterrent to enjoying the fudge that accompanied my coffee.
With a new manager and recently refurbished outside dining area, as well as a cosy snug complete with a log burner and well-stocked bookshelves, you’re sure to want to return to The House Martin.
