The Bells, as it is commonly referred to, dates back to the 17th Century, earning its name from the six bells cast at St Peter's church nearby. The Six Bells houses many of the features that you would expect from such a homely pub - a warm crackling fire and old wooden timbers among others - helping to make your experience here all the more enjoyable.

Determined to fully please its customers, the Six Bells prides itself on the homemade food it serves, boasting an exciting assortment featuring everything from traditional classics to slightly more exotic dishes. The blackboard lists all the daily specials, supporting the à la carte menu and its equally tasty array of dishes. The pub prides itself on its takeaway pizza service, which has proved successful with customers for many years.

For lunch, the range of jacket potatoes and sandwiches will certainly satisfy both your hunger and palate. Modest prices with not-so-modest portions, the Six Bells pleases your wallet and satisfies your stomach. The dinner menu features a host of lovely starters - from the field mushrooms stuffed with roasted pine nuts, garlic, dolcelatte cheese, Parmesan and breadcrumbs, served on a mixed-leaf salad, to the battered south coast calamari served with salad and homemade tartare sauce.

You will be equally delighted by the mains menu, which includes a host of reasonably priced dishes. A mixture of traditional English classics are included, as well as dishes that take the best from Spanish, Italian and Thai cuisine. The penne prawn and salami tagliatelle in a light tomato and basil sauce is a perfect example of this - a wonderfully flavoursome dish. If you are looking for something a bit closer to home, the West Sussex home-cooked ham, free-range eggs and chips makes the most of excellent local ingredients.

The restaurant also doubles up as a skittle alley - the perfect place to host a party with a difference. Able to cater for up to 40 people, it can be used for birthdays, a business team-bonding trip or even just as an excuse to have some fun - another quirky element of a pub that you will wish was your local.
