Combining olde-worlde charm with a modern friendly feel, the Kings Arms in Dorking ticks every box. Low ceilings and beautiful beams are complemented by the quirky decor, and the attentive staff will make you feel very much at home. If the weather is fine, take a seat in one of the two cosy courtyards, where you can eat, drink and be merry in the sun.

We began our meal with the soup and the goat's cheese salad, both of which were light and delicious. Next was a succulent Cajun chicken burger, which was perfectly spiced and served with hand-cut chips and a sweet chilli sauce. The Brie and cranberry tart was a delicious meat-free alternative, with the cranberries making a fine accompaniment to the mild and creamy flavour of the cheese. Our desserts were delightfully traditional. The hand-picked blackberry and apple crumble was a triumph, presenting just the right proportions of crunchy topping and sweet gooey filling, while the Eton Mess was classically prepared with an abundance of juicy strawberries, fresh cream and chewy meringue. Both made a fitting end to a fantastic meal.

Yet you won't only find fantastic food at the Kings Arms. As one would expect from a traditional pub, a fine selection of real ales is available too, and there are also plenty of regular events to keep guests entertained, including weekly live music and quiz nights. Film fans will love the open-air movie nights - there will even be a mobile wood-fired oven cooking up mouth-watering pizzas to enjoy during the film
