The Red Lion
Pubs and Bars with Restaurants
The Red Lion boasts six en-suite rooms in a separate building adjacent to the pub, making the restaurant ideal for travellers or those simply looking for a weekend break. With beamed ceilings, a warm interior and candlelit tables, The Red Lion is welcoming and cosy. A lovely collection of contemporary prints of animals and African landscapes by a local wildlife artist adorn the walls, while a wood-burning stove keeps the restaurant area snug in winter.
The outstanding cuisine, however, is what sets this pub apart. We had starters of chicken liver parfait with toasted brioche and pear chutney, and breaded goat's cheese with beetroot and horseradish - both simply delicious and beautifully presented. Main courses included juicy homemade beef burgers, pie of the week and roasted salmon with a tarragon bisque, to name but a few. For pudding, choose from waffles with maple syrup, sticky toffee pudding or an excellent selection of cheeses. There's a daily changing specials board and, of course, a traditional roast lunch on Sundays. The bar menu features a selection of light bites and baguettes with a separate menu for children. All food is freshly prepared, with a professional and skilful chef cooking all dishes to order. There's a wide range of real ales, wines and spirits available, all at sensible prices.
This well-respected family-run establishment is wonderful. Cosy in winter, with large gardens for use in summer, The Red Lion really does tick every box.
