The private drive, shared by squirrels, rabbits and deer in the distance, should give some hinting as to what the restaurant will be like. And from the moment our feet brushed the bristles of the welcome mat the service was impeccable. A range of professional staff were on hand whenever something was required but courteously melted into the elegant décor of oil paintings and engravings whilst we dined.

The whole experience was very relaxed, giving us a chance to enjoy our surroundings and peruse the menus whilst seated on the tall leather-backed seats of the traditional lounge enjoying olives and bar nibbles, the barman's watchful eye ensuring that my ice cubes didn't get their feet dry.

From the vast selection of wines we chose an Italian Pinot Grigio, the Ca' Lunghetta, and were invited into the main restaurant. The restaurant is spacious yet intimate, and gives the perfect blend of great atmosphere and service.

I chose the pan roasted king prawns to start, followed by the wild mushroom risotto with white truffle oil and a rocket and Parmesan salad. Chef Brett Camborne-Paynter runs a tight ship producing a steady flow of high quality dishes elegantly and stylishly executed.

This was evident in the king prawns - cooked to perfection, effortlessly slipping from their shells and complemented by a delectable chorizo and tomato salsa and tapenade croutes. The mushroom risotto is an immensely filling and hearty dish, with an elegant twist that reflects Brett's many years in the industry. The escalope Loch Duart salmon dish also comes highly recommended browned to taste.

You soon find yourself expecting high standards and a wide range of delicious hot and cold desserts does not disappoint. The rich crunch and contrasting sugary softness of the honey almond parfait is simply divine.

As we requested, our coffees were brought to us in the bar lounge. The type of armchairs that one could happily fall asleep in, a fully equipped bar and a quintessential English atmosphere make for a perfect aprés meal retreat.

The quality of service and food made this an experience to remember, a chance to take a break from the rush of daily life, sit back and be pampered.

Established, relaxed and friendly - if it's quality cuisine and accommodation you're after, you've come to the right place. It's special.
