The Wavendon Arms
Pubs and Bars with Restaurants
Here, modern food is simply cooked; pizza, fish, steaks and pasta all feature; or ask for the specials menu, where the chefs' thoughtful creations for the day are made using produce selected each morning. I heartily enjoyed a starter of grilled garlic prawns with saffron aioli dressing, followed by monkfish on a bed of mashed potato, and a spicy currant and raisin tart pudding to finish, served in a pastry case with fresh cream and ice cream - simply delicious. House wines include two whites and two reds, available by the glass or carafe. We asked for the general manager's recommendation and a very quaffable carafe of house cabernet shiraz arrived to accompany our meal.
This is comfort food to be enjoyed with good company; there are nooks and crannies for couples and larger tables for parties, but a single person will feel equally at home. The staff are well trained, courteous and willing to oblige the merest of whims or the more unusual request. Nothing appears to be too much trouble and their knowledge of each dish on the menu is to be commended.
A large well-lit car park makes finding The Wavendon Arms easy, and there are plans afoot for a new conservatory to expand the facilities available to guests. I look forward to seeing it on future visits.
