The bustling market town of Stony Stratford is home to a range of fantastic eateries including Calcutta Brasserie, an exceptional restaurant offering authentic Indian cuisine. In 2018 Calcutta Brasserie won the coveted award of best Asian restaurant in Milton Keynes. Following traditional recipes and using authentic Indian herbs and spices, chefs whip up an array of spectacular dishes that showcase India’s rich array of flavours, cultures and cooking styles. The restaurant’s location within a Grade II listed former chapel creates a unique setting in which to dine.

The lavish interior sees high ceilings with renaissance-style murals paired with comfortable seating and chandelier lighting. The extensive menu features classic starters like tandoori chicken alongside more unusual options such as hara channa tikki – split green pea and spinach cakes filled with buffalo mozzarella – and talli kekra – crispy soft-shell crab with tamarind chutney. Tempting main course options include the lobster malai featuring whole Canadian lobster cooked in the classic Bengali style with coconut milk, ginger, and green chillies. Meat options like kosha mangsho, comprising slow-cooked lamb with aromatic hot spices, caramelised onion and ginger, are sure to please, while traditional thali dishes provide a great way to sample a variety of flavours; you’ll get to sample three curries accompanied by rice, naan, pickles, salad and yoghurt.
