This family-run pub and restaurant, housed in a picturesque grade-II-listed 19th-Century building, truly offers the best of British. Not only can you enjoy views across the stunning English countryside from its windows, you can also sample superb British cuisine made with fantastic local produce (and herbs and vegetables grown in the pub's own garden), plus some quality local real ales at the bar. There are also eight refurbished en-suite chalet-style bedrooms, offering visitors a comfortable base from which to explore the locale.

Inside, you'll find a unique combination of the traditional and the modern - carefully preserved original features and contemporary furnishings sit side by side. Both the bar and à la carte menus reflect this, featuring classics with an innovative, modern twist. For example, the starters list includes inspired dishes like kedgeree, featuring seared scallops, smoked haddock, Scotch egg and curry sauce. For mains, perhaps try the redcurrant-glazed duck breast served with confit duck and sesame pancakes, fondant potatoes and curly kale, or one of the pub's famous 21-day-aged Bedfordshire beef steaks, served from a butcher's counter in their open kitchen.

The eatery was selected as one of The Independent's top 50 best cheap eats, citing the steak marinated in Jack Daniel's as one of the most delicious dishes in the country - proof The Carrington really does offer British fare at its best.
