Enter Mexxa Mexxa on a cold winter's evening and be transported to a vibrant Mexican hacienda, with rustic brick walls of bright orange and blue. Greeted by lovely staff to the sounds of live Mariachi and Latino music, you are shown to your table where an exciting menu awaits. To start we had the Cajan calamari which were divinely light and crisp, and a chicken and vegetable soup with fresh coriander and a spicy twist - enough to transport you to South America in one hit. The chef here deftly weaves classical Mexican dishes as well as offering Mexican and Western combos like 'rump a la grande' and 'surf and turf al Mexicano'. The excellent variety of main courses would test anyone's decisionmaking abilities. The burrito and chicken quesadillas were just perfect and it felt a crime to eat the artistry that was the salad garnishing. Leaving room for some dessert was a test of willpower, but with offerings like the glorious banana chimichanga - little parcels of fried tortilla stuffed with banana, sultanas, chocolate, wine and cinnamon - who could refuse? To accompany the feast and add to the holiday atmosphere there was an extensive selection of drinks including sangria and a fun cocktail menu. Because it is spread over three floors, Mexxa Mexxa is ideal for functions. A two-for-one fajita offer runs every day apart from Friday and Saturday evenings and kids eat free providing there is at least one adult ordering from the main menu.
