Hook & Hatchet Inn
The Hook & Hatchet Inn stands out amongst other pubs thanks to its location and amenities. The pub is situated right next to Hucking Estate, which is owned by The Woodland Trust and boasts 573 acres of woodland. Locals and visitors alike are encouraged to explore the numerous beautiful walks before stopping by Hook & Hatchet for drinks, dinner and camping. The campsite is recommended as the ideal stop-off point for those journeying slightly further afield, as it is positioned on the doorstep for ferry services and the Channel Tunnel.
The kitchen serves breakfast, lunch and dinner using top-quality, local produce so that no matter what time of day you pay a visit, you’ll not be left disappointed. Breakfast includes the Hook’s big breakfast: bacon, sausage, eggs, mushrooms, hash browns and a slice of toast served with your choice of freshly squeezed juice, tea or coffee. They also have a vegetarian big breakfast option.
The varied lunch menu means that there is something for everyone at Hook & Hatchet. Starters include options such as hot chicken wings, breaded halloumi and fishcakes comprising smoked haddock, mozzarella and spring onions. However, if you are in a larger group, you may want to opt for the sharing platters – we love the Camembert platter. Burgers, sandwiches and British pub classics make up the rest of the lunchtime menu.
In the evening, you’ll find classic British meals like local award-winning sausages and mash doused in rich onion gravy. Regulars all note that the lamb stew and dumplings served with a crusty roll is not only great value, but incredibly tasty too. The owners have recently added Sunday roasts to their repertoire. With gluten-free, vegan and vegetarian menus also available, as well as specials boards and themed nights, there is always a good reason to visit Hook & Hatchet.
The varied selection of ale, lager, wine and spirits makes the bar a popular meeting point after a long walk or before enjoying a delicious meal. Families, groups of friends and couples are all welcomed by the friendly and generous owners.
