The Bull on the Green
Looking out over the sunny village green of Newick, The Bull was once a popular resting place for pilgrims travelling between Winchester and Canterbury. With old oak beams and exposed rafters exuding traditional charm, the cosy and rustic inn now serves up superb food, fine ale and wine.
Settle down in front of one of the four open fires to peruse the delicious starters. The smoked haddock and salmon fishcakes are accompanied by flavoursome black garlic mayonnaise, and the baked Camembert with rapeseed oil, balsamic vinegar and a selection of breads is perfect for sharing. The main courses are refreshingly varied, and the tasty dishes impeccably presented. The menu changes with the seasons, but might feature the likes of seafood paella, pan-fried calf’s liver with crispy bacon, or the delectable pan-roasted cod in a sweetcorn and pancetta chowder, finished with parsley and a crispy hen’s egg. Keep an eye on the specials board for different options, and be sure to indulge in one of the popular desserts. The roasted pumpkin mousse with a cinnamon cookie crumb, pecan nuts and dulce de leche is full of hearty flavour, and the lemon polenta cake with roasted plum and blood orange sorbet is an equally tempting vegan option.
Breakfast is served at weekends, and Sundays are all about the delicious roasts, so there is something for everyone, whether you’re passing through or staying in one of the comfortable and stylish rooms.
