The Kings Head is a 16th-Century beamed coaching inn that's a cosy retreat throughout winter and cool and tranquil during summer. There's ample seating, a main menu that offers firm pub favourites, and a good selection of light bites and kids' meals. We began our meal here with very generous starters. I had what seemed like an entire shoal of crispy breaded whitebait with a punchy homemade tartare sauce, while my partner enjoyed a steaming bowl of flavoursome mushrooms smothered in a velvety cream sauce and served with hunks of bread for dipping. To follow, I relished a well-seasoned, juicy 10oz beef burger with fresh coleslaw and fluffy chips, and across the table a sizzling fajita dish was devoured almost as quickly as it arrived. Dessert was a crunchy cinnamon crumble over cherries steeped in Port, finishing our meal in typically hearty traditional pub fashion
