Chessell Courtyard Cafe

Shalcombe, Nr. Yarmouth, Isle of Wight, PO41 0UE
Set in the beautiful West Wight countryside, this working pottery offers visitors the opportunity to buy authentic handmade English pottery - or decorate some of their own - before relaxing into a quintessentially British tea experience.

Within the converted barns of family-owned Chessell Pottery, the Courtyard Café is an idyllic destination to take tea or a light lunch, and is also home to an award-winning cream tea. The scones are lovingly baked daily using local ingredients and served with real clotted cream from the local farm and strawberry jam from a nearby village. Enjoy these hand-baked delicacies under the willow tree in the summer with a pot of Fairtrade tea in crockery handmade and decorated on site. Chessell can also provide gluten and dairy-free scones so no one misses out. It's no wonder this café was named winner of the 'Best Island Cream Tea' in the Wight Good Food Guide three years running. Light picnic-style lunches are also available, featuring plenty of local produce, including a selection of Isle of Wight cheeses, as well as handmade cakes and brownies.

Treat yourself to a piece of the experience to take home with you at the Gift Barn, where you can buy the strawberry jam or even your favourite piece from the handmade Chessell Ware strawberry range. Then, perhaps stay awhile in one of the two four-star holiday cottages - converted barns decked out with Emma Bridgewater crockery - for a truly relaxing and creative holiday
