Situated in a quiet corner of Freshwater next to the parish church, this newly refurbished pub boasts a brilliant setting in a spectacular part of the Isle of Wight. Despite its fresh new look, this place retains all the character you'd expect from a traditional country pub - the exposed brickwork, open fire and flagstone flooring are charming features.

With a cycle path nearby and plenty of possibilities for country strolls, this is the ideal place for a pit-stop. Of course, dogs and muddy boots are welcome, too. Local ingredients are sourced from around the Island, including meat from local farms and fish from the surrounding waters, and the kitchen takes pride in serving quality traditional fare executed with flair. Even closer to home, a host of produce is grown in the pub's own allotment - it doesn't get fresher than that. Homemade starters include soup of the day with bread from the village bakery and Isle of Wight crab Mornay. Classic mains include 10oz local rib-eye steak with onion rings, triple-cooked chips and creamy peppercorn sauce, beerbattered fish of the day with tartare sauce and homemade pie with a buttery puff pastry lid. The main menu is supplemented by an ever-changing specials board. As for drinks, there's an extensive wine list as well as four real ales, two of which rotate regularly.

All of this, coupled with excellent service, makes this welcoming establishment a winner with locals and holidaymakers alike. Booking in advance is advised
