Kath's Kitchen is a newly opened farm shop, deli and café situated on the outskirt of Freshwater. Extensive outside seating, boasting views across open fields to the River Yar, coupled with a spacious car park makes this a well-placed venue for walkers enjoying the sights and hungry motorists alike.

We sat ourselves in the light and airy, pine-benched, country-style kitchen area and perused blackboards showcasing an impressive menu. Everything from soups, sandwiches and scones to the quiches, cakes and breads, is homemade using local produce. Local ales, ciders and wines are all available to sample and purchase too.

We both opted for soup to start, which arrived steaming hot with warmed green olive bread. Mine was bursting with the light freshness of garden peas enhanced by a hint of parsley, while my husband enjoyed an earthy yet sweet golden beetroot and pepper concoction. To follow, a smooth chicken liver parfait spread liberally over toasted bruschetta and topped with tangy onion marmalade, and a large, thickly sliced, home-cured ham sandwich enhanced with grainy mustard went down a treat. These left us just enough room to finish with a deconstructed strawberry cheesecake, which delivered on taste without being too heavy, and a rich dark chocolate torte encased in delicate buttery pastry and liberally sprinkled with chopped nuts. A delicious finish for sure
