Pubs and Bars with Restaurants
This is a destination pub for ale enthusiasts – at the bar you’ll find a selection of ten real ales, ten well-kept beers and at least seven ciders. The team here also knows a thing or two about great food, and the menu offers a great range of traditional home-cooked favourites, while the specials board features an ever-changing selection of both British and international fare. The pub’s offering has not gone unnoticed; the Royal Standard was named CAMRA Pub of the Year in 2015 and Aylesbury Vale & Wycombe CAMRA’s Summer Pub 2017. It has also claimed the Pubs in Bloom award for both 2015 and 2016 and scooped The Sun’s Pub Idol national award in 2016.
Starters include classic deep-fried Camembert with plum and apple chutney; a combination of sweet and savoury. Main dishes comprise the likes of meaty Cumberland sausages, sirloin steak, and smoked haddock and spring onion fishcakes. Be sure to treat yourself to dessert – the warm chocolate fudge cake is a favourite. If you’re planning to visit on a Sunday, the pub serves a traditional Sunday lunch, for which booking is recommended due to its popularity. For those simply wanting a light meal, the pub also offers a range of baguettes and jacket potatoes on the bar menu. Wash it all down with one of the great ales on offer or one of the top-quality wines.
The Royal Standard’s biannual beer festivals are always popular, with over 40 beers to sample, so the website’s event page is well worth keeping an eye on.
