The Olive Leaf
The Olive Leaf only opened in February 2018 but it has already been established as a must-visit by locals and visitors to Hayling Island. The owners saw huge potential in this beautiful building: the seating out the front overlooks the stunning seafront and the beer garden at that back is the perfect place to spend a sunny day. The Olive Leaf opened with the idea that this eatery should be experienced for special occasions, although, thanks to the fully stocked bar featuring wine, spirits, three real ales and IPA, you can visit for a quick tipple too.
Everything on the menu from the shortbread biscuits to the toffee sauce is homemade. From the seasonally changing menu, the roasted vegetable tarte Tatin with balsamic reduction and rocket comes highly recommended. For mains, try the Cajun blackened swordfish steak with rice and peas in a chilli and lime oil, and if you have room for dessert then the dark chocolate and orange cheesecake is a must. The separate bar menu is served throughout the day on weekends. This summer will see the addition of an outside bar, a pizza oven and barbecue in the spacious garden, as well as a converted caravan that sells Pepperelli’s ice cream, which any Hayling islander will tell you is the best.
