Set in the peaceful village of Rotherwick, in the heart of the Hampshire countryside, The Falcon is a shining example of the quintessential country inn - with modern and stylish cuisine bringing it bang up to date. You can enjoy fantastic food, within walls built over 300 years ago, and indulge your eyes too with breathtaking views of the rural surroundings.

The warm welcome you'll receive from Portuguese owners Rui and Maria Gomes and their the friendly and attentive staff is in keeping with the cosy atmosphere, created by large fireplaces, beamed ceilings and flickering candles. This is the perfect setting for enjoying a romantic meal, a celebration with friends, or that relaxing family get-together you've never quite got around to.

The pub specialises in Portuguese food, and the selection of Portuguese daily specials, together with the standard menu offerings, gives plenty to ponder whilst sipping together with the standard menu offerings, gives plenty to ponder whilst sippingglasses of chilled wine and nibbling olives and homemade bread. The menu, with its balance of traditional and contemporary dishes, has something to suit everyone.

When my starter of smoked salmon arrived, I found the innovative presentation pleasing, and the honey, mustard and dill dressing was a light and tangy start to a wonderful meal. The aroma from the special of noisettes of lamb was hypnotic, and the subsequent flavours did not disappoint. I tried the Falcon chicken, a signature dish recommended to all, and could instantly tell why the staff are so proud - it was delicious and I didn't want it to end. But end it did; luckily though, I was fully compensated when I found myself tucking into a naughty, but very nice, homemade dessert - Baileys creme brûlée was an excellent end to the evening. The Falcon now soars at the top of my list of pubs and restaurants whenever I'm looking for a relaxed, homely evening with top-notch food and service - make sure it's at the top of yours too.
