The King's Head
Situated just outside the hustle and bustle of Guildford’s town centre, this attractive venue draws in a regular crowd from the surrounding area. Refurbished in 2017, the bright and airy interior is especially appealing on chilly autumn evenings. It’s the perfect spot to gather with friends for a game of darts and a refreshing pint of Fuller’s cask ale or Cornish Orchards cider.
The menu is packed with tasty pub classics, but for group gatherings we’d have to recommend the sharing platters. Choose a charcuterie board, or opt for the Greek-style vegetarian platter with feta, olives, sunblushed tomatoes, hummus, tzatziki, baba ganoush, olive tapenade and flatbread. A range of social plates is also available – spicy Vietnamese chicken wings, truffled mac and cheese croquettes, and popcorn chicken with tarragon mayonnaise are among the treats on offer. If you’re not keen to share, start with avocado and pesto bruschetta with roasted tomato salsa and follow with the pork and chorizo burger with gem lettuce, tomato, red onion, gherkins and fries.
The King’s Head also serves a scrumptious Sunday roast, but we’d recommend working up an appetite first, perhaps with a walk in the Ornamental Gardens in nearby Stoke Park. Visitors with pups are welcome to dine inside the pub, but on sunny days guests can also take advantage of the picturesque courtyard garden.
