Whichever branch of Rancho Steak House you visit, a meat lovers' paradise awaits. We headed to the ideally situated city centre Southampton venue, which offers a comprehensive selection of the group's signature South American-themed dishes.

With its orange walls, cow hides and images of cowboy figures, the decor at Rancho reinforces the overall theme. At the front of the restaurant is a fully stocked bar, while, at the back of the room, you can watch the kitchen staff hard at work through a large open hatch. Diners can pick from five different steak cuts in three different weights, and the skilled chefs will then prepare your choice according to your liking.

Amidst the buzz of other happy diners, I kicked off my meal in authentic fashion with a portion of Buenos Aires street-food-style empanadas. These golden-crusted pastries had been fried until crisp on the outside, while inside was stuffed with ground beef and just a hint of South American spice, which made for a tasty contrast with the cool sour cream dip served alongside. My wife opted for a baby rack of ribs and was served a very generous portion of tender pork with a picante glaze.

After poring over the many combo menu options for the main course, I plumped for the egg-topped New York rump steak, appropriately served with a side of steak-cut chips. The chunky steak dominated my plate and was deliciously pink and juicy, complemented by the runny yolks of two fried eggs served sunny-side up. But Rancho is about more than just steak - my wife's sizzling skillet of large chicken chunks and onion strips, served with a powerfully spicy salsa, proved that the chefs know their way around a fajita too.

If you can find room, take a look at the daily desserts board and finish your meal with a classic pudding. We sampled profi teroles in all their creamy chocolatey glory, along with a rich and indulgent slice of chocolate fudge cake - paradise indeed
