Pubs and Bars with Restaurants
The Talisman is widely regarded as one of the best pubs in the area; it’s alive with the inviting sound of chatter and laughter on any given night of the week. Inside, open fires, candlelit tables and cosy book-lined corners create a homely feel. The service is just right: informal and laid-back, but attentive at the right moments. Outside, there’s a sizeable beer garden filled with pergolas and comfy seating.
The menu is packed with pub classics including mouth-watering burgers stacked with Monterey Jack cheese, comforting stew, and Badger beer-battered fish and chips. Our eyes were drawn to the specials board – the lamb and chorizo pie was very tempting, but I decided that only steak could suffice. Settling on the 10oz rib-eye with garlic butter and chunky chips, my succulent cut was chargrilled to perfection. My companion enthused over their steak and ale pie encased in buttery pastry, which she declared utterly divine. Unbeaten by our large platefuls, we enjoyed seasonal crumble packed with juicy fruit, and a warm chocolate brownie with lashings of chocolate sauce.
With a fantastic selection of ale and wine, and hot drinks by the Colourful Coffee Company, The Talisman has everything a British local should: perfectly pulled pints, a fantastic atmosphere and delicious food.
