Tucked away on a small parade, with ample parking, Cinnamon Bay is the sort of Indian restaurant everyone wants as their local. Established over ten years ago, this reliable and friendly place has become a well-loved landmark and has featured in the Good Curry Guide ever since. The smart but simple space sets the scene for informal dining, where an extensive selection of freshly prepared, reasonably priced food reigns supreme. We couldn't wait to dig in.

We started with onion bhajis and gram-flour-fried aubergines, both of which were satisfyingly crisp on the outside. Although tempted by the fiery chicken jalfrezi (their most popular dish), I plumped for a selection of dishes instead - the chickpea dhal, the potato and caulifl ower aloo gobi and spinach with grilled paneer were culinary triumphs packed with authentic flavours, and I can highly recommend them. My companion's Bangladeshi fish, which flaked off the bone, was served in a rich, thick tomato and onion sauce, and he assures me that it tasted every bit as delicious as its alluring aroma suggested. We shared an onion naan on the side, which was beautifully light and fluffy. The accompanying bottles of Cobra and Bangla by the bottle (Kingfisher is available on draught) also went down a treat. After two delightful courses, we ended the evening with an excellent cup of coffee. We can't wait to come back for a takeaway, or maybe the Sunday buffet, which, at just £8.95, really brings in the crowds
