This charming country pub in the beautiful village of Bursledon boasts a delightful dining area alongside a large bar where patrons can quench their thirst with a refreshing Badger ale. Inside, the farming-inspired decor enhances the pub’s countryside theme – think agricultural tools adorning the walls, colourful trinkets on the windowsills, and two log-burning fires to keep diners warm and cosy. There’s also a gorgeous beer garden that’s perfect for warmer weather.

The varied menu features a range of well-loved classics. To start, my partner and I shared the meat board, which came presented on a large, rustic wooden tray. The three-part platter provided the perfect start to our meal, and comprised spicy Buffalo wings that were perfectly complemented by the flavoursome lamb kofta with tzatziki, and wonderfully seasoned roasted new potatoes. For my main course, I opted for sumptuous salmon pavé – a generous 8oz cut of flaky fish atop potato tartare hash, with braised leeks, cabbage and peas. Every mouthful was a symphony of moreish flavours. My partner was thrilled with the pork belly dish she chose from the specials board. Served with creamy mashed potato and red cabbage, the crispy pork was bursting with flavour and cooked to perfection. We finished on a sweet note with a rich chocolate and coconut torte served with almond cream, a delightful dessert that just so happened to be vegan. Thanks to a winning combination of great food, a relaxed atmosphere and beautiful location, The Plough is an excellent destination for any occasion.
