Pubs and Bars with Restaurants
The menu is both innovative and distinctive with a Chef's special board that changes daily. All food is cooked fresh to order utilising local ingredients whenever possible. My chosen starter of seared scallops on saffron ratatouille with chilli and lime dressing was sheer perfection. My partner was equally impressed with the garlic and cream mushrooms and only just resisted the urge to lick the plate clean.
Main courses are equally impressive. I went with the recommendation of grilled rump steak with mushrooms, tomatoes and chips, and enjoyed every mouthful. The baked portabello mushrooms stuffed with stilton, leeks and walnuts with a garlic herb cream sauce was thoroughly enjoyable. My partner was impressed with this vegetarian option offering a welcome alternative to the predictable dishes so often available to non-meat eaters.
Desserts followed and with a wide variety including diverse choices such as white and dark chocolate marquise with Tia Maria sauce, lemon and lime posset with vanilla short bread biscuit and a west country and continental cheese plate served with fruit and biscuits. We finally decided to opt for the sticky toffee pudding with toffee sauce and vanilla ice cream - with two spoons.
The Black Horse Inn stocks an impressive wine list and offers a choice of real ales for the enthusiast. Booking is highly recommended for this excellent quality country inn.
