Our senses were instantly awakened by the smell of great food and the bustle of the busy restaurant. We enjoyed a drink by the open fire in the bar, before being shown to our table. I chose to start with the butternut squash, goat's cheese, chicory and walnut salad, which was picture-perfect. My partner was intrigued by the smoked haddock Scotch egg with tomato and chorizo compote, with soft egg yolk oozing out of a crisp breadcrumb shell. My main of braised blade of beef with parsnip Dauphinois, baby carrots and a red wine jus was simply divine, and my companion relished the fabulous flavours of his guinea fowl breast with wilted kale, bread sauce and game chips.
Two desserts - a sticky toffee and chestnut pudding with toffee sauce and peanut butter parfait, and Emma's signature dish of creamed coconut rice pudding with plum jam - finished off our delicious meal perfectly. If you don't fancy the drive home after dinner, why not spoil yourself and book into one of the Ragged Cot's guest rooms.
