Is there a better way to relax than by enjoying good food and drink in convivial surroundings? Probably not, which is why a visit to The George Inn at Finchdean is a must. The quaint public bar is dog friendly and during the dark winter months there is always a welcoming open fire burning. The pub dates back to at least 1797 and the old tools, maps and pictures that adorn the walls and ceiling all hark back to an earlier, quieter age.

There are many options for eating - choose from either the bar menu or the extensive à la carte menu - in the bar, the restaurant, the conservatory or, weather permitting, in the large garden. The menus include fresh fish and fantastic steaks as well as salads and rustic pizzas. The ever-changing specials board certainly surprises with the quality and variety of its offerings. The food is all homemade and where possible the produce is locally sourced. The steak and ale pie and steak and kidney pudding are signature dishes and wonderfully filling. There is an extensive wine list and the cask ales are very well kept; the pub has recently received a Cask Marque accreditation in recognition of their high quality.

The George is becoming a regular venue for live music, including a jazz evening on the last Wednesday of every month. So whether it's hearty pub fare or a relaxed drink you're after, The George delivers on all counts
