The George and Dragon

Among the winding, narrow streets of Sandwich, The George and Dragon pub sits alongside a picturesque collection of 15th-Century buildings. Either settle down for a drink and read the paper, or take a seat in the restaurant to sample some of the delicious food on offer. A starter of chicken liver and foie gras paté with rye toast and plum chutney was incredibly tasty, as was the mackerel and potato salad with a honey and mustard dressing. This was followed by a juicy rack of lamb with pea and mint purée, onion potato cake, lamb sweetbreads, and a perfectly cooked rib-eye steak. The portions were generous so we shared one dessert between us - an apple crumble with rhubarb ice cream, which offered a delicious twist on a classic. A lovely atmosphere and impeccable service from friendly staff completes this country-pub picture.
