Set within a 17th-Century farm building, this delightful inn exudes quaint, old-world charm, with lowbeamed ceilings, exposed brickwork and an unmistakable traditional country atmosphere. It's not hard to believe that this pub served its first pint of ale in 1803, for it has lost none of its old-fashioned charm. The Old Lantern Inn is situated just a stone's throw from the coast in the picturesque little village of Martin, near Dover. Owners Julian and Nancy took over this pretty, ivy-clad pub in 1997, and their well-stocked bar, welcoming atmosphere and superb home-cooked food have been satisfying customers ever since.

Head chef James Plumridge has a wealth of experience, and has gained an excellent local reputation for s e rving delicious dishes created using quality ingredients. James has carefully designed a menu and specials board to suit every palate, using locally farmed, free-range meat and vegetables sourced from local producers whenever possible. When you're tucking into a juicy steak at The Old Lantern Inn, it's good to know that you're supporting the local economy and helping to cut down on unnecessary food miles. And if you plan on becoming a regular visitor, you'll be kept on your toes with a fortnightly-changing menu. Expect to find delicious starters such as bruschetta - toasted organic bread loaded with cherry tomatoes, red onion and fresh basil - and mouth-watering main courses like tender duck breast served with bean sprouts, spring onions and mushrooms, or tuna steak with roasted fennel and tangy grapefruit and lime sauce. And, if you've got room after all that, why not finish things off with a wonderfully indulgent dessert such as Eton mess, with lashings of whipped cream, oodles of crunchy meringue and plenty of fresh crushed raspberries - marvellous.

For those who want to prolong their stay there is separate holiday accomodation available, sleeping up to five guests. So, if you're craving some really good traditional English food, look no further than The Old Lantern Inn - I guarantee you'll find an excuse to return.
