The Old House at Home
Nestled in the picturesque village of West Wittering, this recently refurbished pub and restaurant presents a traditional exterior, and the bright contemporary interior is a welcome contrast. As The Old House at Home is dog-friendly, we were accompanied by our dog Lola, and all three of us were offered an equally warm welcome.
After a look through the wine list I took the recommendation of our host Mies and opted for a glass of Corvina, an excellent Italian red from the winter wine list. We started our meal with two crispy seafood dishes – perfectly flavoured salt and pepper squid, and tempura king prawns with chilli sauce. For mains, my partner chose a Sunday roast, comprising tender beef sirloin with crispy roast potatoes and all the trimmings. I selected the famous beer-battered fish and chips, and the crispy coating and flaky fish exceeded my expectations. To finish, we couldn’t resist taking a look at the pudding menu. The cheeseboard had a wonderful selection, but the chocolate brownie with salted caramel ice cream was too tempting to miss. The service was friendly and attentive, and the hosts charming, so we felt right at home. This delightful venue also benefits from an extensive beer garden; we can’t wait to return to while away a few hours there on a sunny afternoon.
