The Ship Inn Itchenor
The quaint coastal village of West Itchenor is home to the delightful and uniquely themed Ship Inn Itchenor. To passersby this charming establishment may just look like a pretty village pub, but step inside and you would be forgiven for thinking you’d stepped aboard a traditional ship. The interior resembles a beautifully modified version of a ship’s cabin from yesteryear, with brass port holes and wooden walls adorned with striking pictures of ships and seascapes.
Revelling in our enchanting surroundings, we settled into the cosy restaurant to enjoy our supper. To start we were treated to hot smoked salmon with beetroot and peppery horseradish, and mouth-wateringly succulent braised beef with onions and turnips. For our mains, we tucked into crisp fish and chips with fresh minted peas, and the juicy Ship Burger which came with a special house relish, smoked streaky bacon, creamy Sussex Charmer cheese and caramelised onions. To finish, we indulged in two scrumptious puddings – an elegant and tantalising confection of chocolate ganache and peanut butter, and sweet cherry Bakewell tart with ice cream. The courteous, attentive staff are always on-hand to help, whether it’s catering for special dietary requirements, or advising which drinks would best accompany your meal. With such exceptional all-round service, we cannot recommend a visit here highly enough.
