Half Moon Inn
Traditional country pub meets quirky agricultural museum at the Half Moon WS Inn. The first thing you notice upon entering this 15th-century inn just outside Petworth is that every nook and cranny is filled with interesting farming paraphernalia. The low ceilings, lead-light windows and real log fire give a homely feel and everyone is welcome, including dogs. It’s a family-run business with Keith in the kitchen cooking hearty homemade food. Nothing is too much trouble for the other family members, who help out on the bar and provide service with a smile. We started our Sunday lunch with the delicious prawn cocktail before moving on to mains of Keith’s signature steak and kidney pie, and a generous portion of succulent roast pork served with all the trimmings and rich homemade gravy. For dessert we shared the homemade apple pie with custard, which was wonderfully comforting.
