The Elsted Inn
Elsted Road, Midhurst, GU29 0JT
Situated in the heart of the South Downs National Park near the pretty market town of Midhurst you’ll find The Elsted Inn. This outstanding country pub boasts great food and drink, attentive service and a warm atmosphere – it’s no wonder The Elsted receives rave reviews from all who visit. Head chef Charlie Piper-Hodgson has crafted an excellent menu that showcases tip-top locally sourced produce from West Sussex – including seasonal vegetables from Charlie’s family garden – and changes regularly according to the ingredients delivered each day. Popular starters include the mezze sharing platter, where everything from the hummus to the smoked aubergine salad is made in-house. The Elsted has gained an enviable reputation for its mouth-watering pork belly main course, which uses braised and roasted organic pork belly sourced from nearby Goodwood Home Farm Estate. Alongside tempting desserts such as salted peanut parfait with caramelised banana, there’s a range of homemade ice cream. A visit to The Elsted wouldn’t be complete without sampling one of their real ales, which are beautifully kept in part thanks to the pub’s location on Elsted Marsh. The marsh actually runs through The Elsted’s cellar, naturally cooling the ale for the perfect pint. The pub welcomes dogs, making this the perfect place in which to relax after a long walk in the surrounding countryside. If you fancy extending your stay, you’ll find four en-suite guest rooms, two of which are dog-friendly.
