Situated in central Chichester, The Crate & Apple is a charming pub serving top-notch food to those seeking a tasty breakfast, lunch or dinner. Our attentive host Andy provided a warm welcome as we took our seats at a comfortable table in the restaurant area. Inside, the bright, modern decor provides a relaxing environment in which to enjoy a meal or drink. Step outside into the garden area and you’ll find a tranquil haven for al fresco dining.
Those dining can expect an excellent variety of dishes listed on the à la carte menu and specials board. The emphasis here is on creating exceptional food from the finest local, seasonal ingredients. Special dietary requirements are well catered for. My partner’s starter of potted crab with chervil butter was a delight, while my innovative starter of goat’s cheese sorbet with tangy pumpkin jam provided an unusual yet delicious start to the meal. I followed with cod loin wrapped in Parma ham which was accompanied by a truly exceptional samphire and chive cream sauce. The fish was cooked to perfection and the delicate flavours were complemented beautifully by the ham. My partner’s sirloin steak was cooked exactly to his liking, and served with a mouth-watering Béarnaise sauce. By this time we were feeling content, but managed to find enough room to share a delightfully rich sticky toffee pudding. To complement the food there’s a good range of wine as well as quality ale and lager.
