The Bosham Inn is a stone's throw away from Bosham and the picturesque village of Chidham in Chichester. Formerly a vicarage for the local parish, it was converted into a hotel and then a dining house, but is now a beautiful country pub and restaurant, which underwent a large-scale refurbishment in early November 2008.

The Bosham Inn offers the warmest of welcomes, with cosy log fires and friendly staff, complemented by a freshly prepared seasonal menu, a range of cask ales and an extensive wine list offering, all by the glass.

After a leisurely stroll we eagerly entered the Bosham Inn and were greeted by the friendly landlord. We chose to sit by one of the many roaring log fires whilst enjoying our first tipple and perusing the extensive menu of traditional pub favourites - choices range from fish and chips and gammon and eggs to more adventurous dishes such as seafood pasta and piri piri chicken.

The hearty smell of the traditional Sunday roasts made us eager for our starters of tiger prawn gratin and the fantastic mushrooms, Stilton and bacon on focaccia, both of which were delightful. As it was Sunday, we opted for traditional roast beef with all the trimmings and the roast lamb with apricot and rosemary stuffing from the blackboard of daily specials. The roast beef was cooked to perfection, and at such a reasonable price is worth a return visit. The freshly prepared seasonal menu included true winter dishes such as calf's liver with caramelised onion mash, rib-eye steak, gammon and eggs and open chicken pie. In addition, chalkboard daily specials are available, including a range of meat, fish and vegetarian options to suit any palate. These specials include swordfish with red pepper salsa, salmon and crayfish ravioli, half roast duck, beef Espana with chorizo and vegetarian options such as sweet potato and spinach curry, and goat's cheese and asparagus risotto.

The waitress tempted us when she brought over a mini blackboard detailing desserts including lemon meringue cheesecake, sticky toffee and date pudding and a cheese platter. We opted for profiteroles which were the largest I had ever seen, which we followed with an Irish and Parisian liqueur coffee. The Bosham Inn seems to be the perfect venue for every occasion, from a business lunch or family dinner to a romantic meal for two. The delicious freshly prepared menu is available all day, offering a range of fantastic seasonal dishes complemented by an excellent range of wines and cask ales.
