The Trigger Pond
Pubs and Bars with Restaurants
The pub has a relaxed atmosphere, boasting two log fires and a new conservatory dining area. Specials of the day were on the board, in addition to an inviting menu packed with freshly cooked dishes. These included delicious-sounding treats such as local rib-eye steak (which seemed to be a popular choice), halibut, wood pigeon and stuffed peppers. Despite the aforementioned treats tempting us, we started with pan-fried Spanish chorizo and Wexford mushrooms, then delved into our mains: a bacon-wrapped chicken breast stuffed with Brie and mushrooms, and an Aberdeen Angus burger with mature Cheddar and crisp bacon. I plan to return as soon as possible for the beef and Wadworth 6X pie; I've also got my eye on the beer-battered fish and chips, and the mushroom ravioli with sweet chestnut and spinach.
Desserts on the board were crumble of the day (apple and sultana), sticky toffee pudding and luxury ice cream; we chose the Eton Mess, a delightfully gooey concoction of crumbly meringue, creamy vanilla ice cream and plump berries. This dish was heavenly - much like our overall experience at The Trigger Pond.
