If there's one thing that sums up what's on offer at The Nightingale, it has to be, above all else, a sincerely warm and genuine welcome. Atmosphere contributes hugely to the dining experience and The Nightingale offers both great pub grub and a fantastically warm and friendly place to make you feel right at home. The pub, based in the village of Langford in south east Bicester is not only a place to dine but also a general hub housing the buzz of the local community. Landlords Kieran and Matt have been at the helm since June 2014 and, in that short space of time, have developed not only a great menu but also a whole host of events, competitions and family activities that keep the local community talking.

The food on offer here is traditional in style - think selections from the grill, an array of pub classics and a small assortment of world food dishes to suit all tastes and appetites. To start, the soup of the day was a delicious homemade pea and ham. We also tried the deliciously rich garlic mushrooms, served in a creamy white sauce. Both dishes were served with fresh crusty bread, both were full of fl avour and both were decidedly hearty in size. Notable main meals making an appearance at our table were the 12oz rib-eye steak - an off-the-grill classic - served with chips and salad; and, owing to the season, the 'homemade winter warmer' meat and vegetable stew with chunky dumplings - a fantastically hearty dish with mouth-watering fl avours. In the pursuit of satisfying our sweet-toothed tendencies, the lemon meringue came highly recommended by fellow diners, and I had to try the fabulous red velvet gateau, which was every bit as rich and decadent as you might imagine.

Our visit fell on the weekly pub quiz night and, not being ones to miss out, we grabbed paper and a pen and put our knowledge to the test with the rest of the packed pub. With entertainment on the cards including Bicester's Got Talent, regular karaoke nights, charity events and live music at the weekends, you can be confident you'll feel well-fed and entertained after a visit to The Nightingale.
