Legend has it that The Kings Arms Hotel was once a stomping ground for none other than Queen Victoria's son. It was here, they say, that he entertained his mistress. Now, however, this 17th-Century establishment is more renowned for its hospitable service and memorable cuisine. All that is left of the past - bar the authentic decor and furnishings - is a spooky Victorian ghost that many claim to have encountered while visiting the hotel. But don't let this deter you from visiting what remains a thoroughly inviting country hotel.

Putting aside any supernatural fears, my partner and I enjoyed a relaxing night at The Kings Arms Hotel. Our room was clean, nicely furnished and our four-poster bed exceptionally comfortable. The tea-and-coffee-making service was another neat touch. The breakfast we ordered included all of the usual favourites - egg, bacon and mushrooms - and really set us up for the day. The hotel also provides a wonderful evening menu, which is brimming with all manner of traditional dishes and pub snacks.

Location is another pivotal aspect of The Kings Arms Hotel's appeal, and with Bicester Village retail outfit only a ten-minute walk from the hotel, visitors can use the premises as a cosy base while exploring the area.
