Royal Naval Reserve
One of the oldest pubs in Whitstable, the Royal Naval Reserve dates back to 1796. Located just minutes from the sea, this charming pub consistently delights guests with top-notch locally sourced food and an inviting atmosphere. Inside, historical maritime trinkets adorn the walls of this community hub, making it the perfect spot after a stroll along the scenic Whitstable seafront. Light bites and traditional hearty mains make up the main menu, but you’ll also find doorstep sandwiches for lunch, filled with the likes of Brie and cranberry, and homemade fish fingers. Delicious fresh fish and seafood dishes showcase the benefits of a coastal location, but there’s plenty for meat-eaters and vegetarians, too. A firm favourite is the Whitstable harbour pie, with white fish, salmon, prawns and smoked haddock in a creamy white wine and parsley sauce, finished with a mashed potato topping and Parmesan flakes. Booking is recommended for the popular Sunday roast; you don’t want to miss out.
