Elsie Mo’s New York Diner
In the shadow of Canterbury Cathedral sits a little slice of Brooklyn. Elsie Mo’s is the most authentic American diner I have visited outside of New York, combining the best of American cooking with authentic decor. If you have ever watched Pulp Fiction and wanted to try a Five Dollar Shake, this is the place for you. The staff are friendly – with some sweeping through the diner on rollerskates – and all are on-hand to provide recommendations. You might need it too, with a range of more than 50 cask ales and lagers brought in directly from the USA to choose from. The food menu has something for everyone, from quesadillas and ‘hot as hell’ chicken, through to 20oz burgers and three-bean chilli. We enjoyed a Cowgirl steak and Cowboy burger. My steak was cooked to perfection and came accompanied by an enormous juicy prawn – a great twist on a surf and turf. Elsie Mo’s embraces the best of American dining; great food, big portions and good old-fashioned family hospitality – a must visit.
