Sukhothai Palace

Chinese and East Asian

0.5 miles
62 Middle Street, Brighton, East Sussex, BN1 1AL
Tucked away in Middle Street, close to some of Brighton's most popular shopping areas, is this authentic Thai restaurant. Take the opportunity to get away from the hubbub of the streets and ensconce yourself in Sukhothai Palace's traditional surroundings, transporting you from bohemian Brighton straight into the heart of Thailand. The interior is relaxed and conventionally Thai, and the staff are charming and more than helpful, combining competence and speed with a warmth and friendliness that makes the experience all the more pleasurable.

The cuisine itself remains absolutely faithful to its origins, prepared using only the freshest produce by chefs who are well-practised in cooking quality Thai cuisine, having worked in some of Thailand's finest eateries. Favourites, such as chu chee curry - comprising deep-fried fish or prawns served with red curry sauce or lime leaves - and haw mok curry, a steamed red curry topped with coconut cream and fresh, sweet basil, are all available. If you are looking for a new favourite dish there is plenty of opportunity to try something different, and with the tasty array of salads, stir-fries, grilled dishes, noodles and curries available, the only issue will be deciding what to choose. There is a vegetarian option for almost every meal so no-one need miss out, and the prices are remarkably reasonable for such a carefully thought-out, authentic menu. If you pop in for lunch (before 5pm) you can pick up two courses for a meagre £4.95, giving you the opportunity to enjoy one of Sukhothai's excellent starters or soups before your main. The restaurant also has a takeaway service available for those who want to enjoy some quality Thai fare in their own home. The effort to radiate authenticity undergone by Sukhothai is something to admire; everything from the helpful service, the experienced chefs and the setting, right down to the spices imported straight from Thailand, ensures customers are given a truly special experience. Diners will be pleased to hear that no MSG is used in the preparation of dishes served at Sukhothai. And the pennyconscious will delight in the fact that no service charge is added to your bill at the end of the meal.
