Little Bay is located right on the seafront in Brighton and now boasts an outdoor seating area with views over the English Channel. Setting foot inside the restaurant, you could be forgiven for wondering whether you'd entered a theatre or an opera house, thanks to the opulent red curtains and golden mouldings. In fact you wouldn't be entirely mistaken, as on most nights you can dine to the accompaniment of talented musicians singing opera, playing jazz guitar or performing cabaret.

The quirky, extravagant decor forms the perfect backdrop to the fresh, unfussy food. The three-course set menu is very reasonably priced and is made of simple, crowd-pleasing dishes. My soup of the day (mixed vegetable) was a real treat. If you're in the mood for fish, don't miss the fillet of cod served in a hot casserole dish with delicate tomato sauce, pungent chorizo and earthy vegetables. I scarcely felt guilty after eating my dessert; the melting chocolate brownie with hot raspberries was surprisingly light and unsurprisingly delicious. The à la carte menu features equally tasty options, and a sumptuous all-you-can-eat buffet breakfast is available for just £5.95. There's also a traditional roast every Sunday, with a choice of pork or rib-eye beef.

Serving their great value cuisine all year round, including Christmas Day and other bank holidays, Little Bay offers an experience not to be missed
